State of Flow: Markantonio

Flow” is a scientifically recognized state of mind where a person is completely focused and immersed in what they’re doing- All time seems to stop, the whole world seems to disappear, and the person is performing and creating at their peak levels. Top performance athletes, engineers, and especially your favorite music artists all try to do whatever they can to achieve the State of Flow. Although everyone has their own method to achieve “flow”, factors such as creative workspaces, learning beyond their craft, physical/mental well-being, feedback/self-evaluation on work, and resting time- help all artists create their best work.

With a career that spans over two decades, Markantonio is considered one of Italy’s most accomplished electronic music artists. He shares with 6AM how he achieves key factors to get to a State of Flow for his projects including AnalyticTrail RecordsMKT Records, and Casamia Music (aka C.\SAMIA) as the owner and director, and especially for his recent Neapel EP that was released on September 30th, 2022 (Friday) and is now available to purchase.

How Markantonio Sets Up a Creative Inducing Workspace

After many years of studio production, during the pandemic, I was forced to start producing with only my laptop, headphones, and external speakers on a few occasions. Add to that no keyboard, no machines, no sound cards, etc. It was simply just me and my laptop. It’s a bizarre story and outcome, but that probably became the most creative workspace of my life over that period, and it’s actually where I produced a large part of the tracks I’m releasing today, including part of Neapel EP.

How Markantonio Challenges His Mind And Constantly Learn Outside of Music

During the pandemic period, I felt the need to start living a healthy life. So I went back to training three to four times a week and living with a specific diet that has now become a lifestyle for me.

How Markantonio Achieves Physical Well Being

When I’m not on tour during the week, I try to have a regular standard and pattern of living. So I try to sleep early by waking up early, and I try to have regular meal times and exercise as I mentioned before; to restore and maintain a normal biorhythm after the weekends of travel and work.

Physical well-being and self-care always come first for Markantonio.

How Markantonio Maintains Positive Thinking And Mental Well Being

Simply opening my laptop and listening to hundreds of tracks a day from a wide range of genres and styles… I’m a sort of music maniac, so I listen to everything. Moreover, most of my productions are inspired by the energy the dancefloor transmits to me when I perform as a DJ.

How Markantonio Lets Himself Rest And Not Over Work

When I feel it’s time to take one to two days off from music and studio production, I spend the days with my daughter and my girlfriend. So a dinner or lunch with the two people I love the most in this world definitely helps me to rest and restore my mental health too.

How Markantonio Got Into the State of Flow for His Newest Neapel EP on ei8ht

The big challenge was restarting and producing music in a totally new environment outside the studio I’d been so used to over the years. However, when my engineer confirmed that my tracks were sounding good even though I was producing with an entirely different setup, it meant that I’d passed through one of the hardest steps of my career as a producer, and could get back to work with full confidence in my music.
