In March, a sold-out meme-inspired “Shrek Rave” drew superstar rappers and “Shrek” fans alike, raising over $10,000 for a North Carolina shooting victim.
The Shrek-themed rave took place in L.A. in March, and the organizers have said that they’re wanting to take the event to other major cities in the US.
Ka5sh, a Los Angeles-based content creator, organized the event to collect funds for his sister, Hayle Smith, who was robbed and shot nine times in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Among the 900 guests in attendance were rappers Rico Nasty, Yung Gravy, and Lil Aaron, who were ready to celebrate the “Shrek” style party.
“I feel like Shrek is the right amount of cringe, but also the right amount of nostalgia. It’s dumb enough, but also still fun. There are not a lot of pop culture references that you can put the word ‘rave’ in that you’d want to attend. Even ‘Spongebob Rave’ sounds a little childish, but something about ‘Shrek Rave’ just works,” Ka5sh told Narcity.

Now Ka5sh wants to take this venture further to other cities around the US — he says that he wants to take the Shrek rave to New York, Atlanta, and Chicago.
“I also want to bring this to the middle of nowhere!” Ka5sh added. “Wisconsin, Nebraska, those places need this too.”
The bucket list headliners that will be filling out the top three on Ka5sh’s list include 100 Gecs, Lil Nas X, and Kanye West. “I’ve dm-ed Lil Nas X a bunch of times so I think that will happen, we’ve just got to see,” Ka5sh added. “I’ve got to dream big though, let’s just say Kanye West, maybe he’ll call back.”
