Miles From Mars is a new label concept by Montel aka MNTL, and the debut release comes from the label boss himself.
He also heads up Misfit Music that focuses more on peak time tracks that have explosive energy, and although Miles From Mars is still dance floor focused, its sound is more atmospheric, fusing tough percussion with deeper sounds.
MNTL is the techno alias of house producer Montel who has previously released tracks on Bedrock, Knee Deep In Sound, Toolroom, Viva and Toy Tonics, plus collaborated with artists such as Kevin Saunderson, Todd Terry and Huxley.
Having previously kept MNTL exclusive to Misfit Music, this is only his third release of original material under the alias, as well as remixing Tiger Stripes.
The opening track “Escape Velocity” has ambient textures layered over a pounding kick drum and a prominent vocal.
There are also two versions of “Atmosphere”, the first of which has stabbing synths that lead towards the building tension of the breakdown, and the (Alt Mix) swaps the synth stabs for a melody rich lead sound.
Early tastemaker feedback has been great on this EP, with positive support from artists such as Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber, Bart Skils, Felix Da Housecat, John Digweed, Ilario Alicante, and Pig & Dan, amongst others.
Miles From Mars 01 by MNTL is out November 2nd and available on Beatport
