Premiere: Lorenzo Bartoletti Debuts on Matador’s RUKUS With “Monasterio” EP Featuring Andres Campo, Darius Syrossian and Russell Remixes

Lorenzo Bartoletti steps up for his debut on RUKUS with his Monasterio EP, featuring two blistering originals and a star-studded, no-nonsense, remix package from Andres Campo, Darius Syrossian and Russell.

Italian-born, Barcelona-based Bartoletti is fast achieving fame, thanks to his compelling and high octane DJ sets in prestigious venues across Europe, including DGTL Festival, La Terrazza (Barcelona) and Amnesia (Milan).

Bartoletti’s approach to today’s techno landscape is one of captivating production with sublime modernity. ‘Monasterio’ opens with a loopy, rustling groove and hi-hats accented with chanting vocals. Moody synth notes rule amid a floating baseline, shaping tone and shifting perspective. Dedicated to his nephew, Lapo, ‘Cinque Marzo’ is awash with tight, lively, upbeat percussion and raspy, Prophet sounding pads. Middy plucks anchor the track as it winds, gathering pace and complexity.

First up on the remixes is one of Spain’s most exciting artists, Andres Campo, and his rework of the title track. Delivering peak time perfection with a pounding kick and lo-fi action, Campo paves the way for an epic breakdown of old and a sirenic call to the dancefloor.

Darius Syrossian’s inimitable skill as a musician shakes ‘Cinque Marzo’ to it’s core with an edgy cut of 909 house percussion and glitchy riffs. Punctuated, breathy vocals hover above a bowling baseline as the track twists and writhes in jaunty, triumphant flair.

Label favorite Russell returns, reworking ‘Monasterio’ with gritty, driving bass and plucky synths. Climbingarps herald scattered, raindrop notes and urgent, purposeful melody, closing out the ep with an uplifting resoluteness.

When asked about the release, Lorenzo said:

“To release on RUKUS is a big honour for me, since I’ve been following the label from the beginning, supporting every single release. I felt extremely happy and satisfied when Gavin told me he wanted to release them on RUKUS, simply I couldn’t wait till now that we are really close to the release date. I met Gavin for the first time a few years ago, we were both playing at a Paco Osuna’s Mindshake Showcase in Miami which was really fun! Since then I always followed his musical journey and I was really into it. That’s why I decided to propose to him my projects, I felt he could really appreciate and understand my new tracks. Luckily, that’s what happened!”
