The 1990s were an interesting period as far as the rave era goes, and especially so in the techno-loving city of Berlin, where the genre pretty much defined the rave scene of that decade. Not to mention of course the wild fun that came with these parties.

Tilman Brembe knows all about those legendary parties. In fact he attended almost all of the rave parties happening in the German capital from 1990 to 1997, and not just as an avid partygoer though. In fact his attendance was part of his job then as a photographer for Frontpage magazine, the outlet that documented the rave parties of the era.

As the techno rave parties winded down, Brembe took a brief hiatus to focus on other things. But he’s now back, this time to share Berlin’s ’90s rave craze. He recently setup an online project called Zeitmaschine, which showcases a sizable archive of photos he took during the period.

This personal project offers a rare and candid look of the Berlin party scene in the ’90s. For those who grew up during that period or even for those who were too young to remember, Zeitmaschine is a time capsule that manages to capture the essence of the ’90s Berlin rave party scene to perfection.
