Tasha Blank is a celebrated international DJ, motivational speaker, and founder of BODY LVNGUAGE (formerly The Get Down), a global dance party reviving the soul of nightlife. With its uniquely raucous, sexy presence and rich culture of respect, all bodies are welcome.
Tasha is also the driving force behind Powerhouse DJ School: a leadership academy building a new breed of DJ. Rather than simply focusing on the technical aspects of the craft, PhDJ teaches artistry, creative discipline, ritual, the body-mind connection, event production, and everything else emerging DJs need to ignite the kind of dance culture we didn’t know we needed.
Hi Tasha, it’s great to have you on and to get to know you and your projects better. Tell us what led you to the techno scene. What is it about New York’s techno scene community that you still find empowering to this day?
Especially in 2022, I’m so wowed by NYC’s resilience. Venues come and go, people move in and out, and parties change, but the energy keeps growing and evolving. It is relentless.

Speaking of empowerment, can you tell us more about ‘BODY LVNGUAGE’ and the ethos behind the concept? How did you find ‘BODY LVNGUAGE’, or rather, how did ‘BODY LVNGUAGE’ find you?
At its core, BODY LVNGUAGE is the magic that happens when we disappear inside a beat and open up to the infinite creativity of our bodies. It’s what saved me over a decade ago when I found dance music and basically rediscovered my soul. Now, it’s an early evening no-holds-barred sweaty dance party that leaves everybody uplifted. It’s a space soaked in catharsis, prayer, and enormous beats where everyone is there to dance really hard.
When I started dancing, it was like I finally got to express all the things I didn’t have words for or was afraid to say. I grew up really shy, struggled with depression and anxiety, and had a hard time expressing my emotions. I felt like a caged animal until the dance found me & unlocked everything. I’ve been on a mission to make the planet’s most potent dance floors ever since — and that’s how BODY LVNGUAGE was born.

For Tasha, dance was a way to find inner freedom.

‘BODY LVNGUAGE’ will also be launching its residency in Las Vegas, a U.S. tour, and the next round of Powerhouse DJ School (PhDJ), your global DJ academy. Congrats to all of these big shifts that are happening around your brand. What do you hope people will gain and learn from the ‘BODY LVNGUAGE’ experience?
Thank you! It’s an exciting moment. I want everyone who experiences BODY LVNGUAGE to touch that part of themselves they always suspected existed but haven’t felt in a long time. The kind of power, bliss, and play that finds us when we’ve let go of who we think we are and let ourselves get carried by the music into something way bigger.

‘BODY LVNGUAGE’ is a place where anybody can re-birth themeselves and escape through self- expression.

You’ve been known for liberating hips through the legendary clubs Cielo, Output, Verboten, House of YES, and even festivals — Envision, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, Wanderlust, and Beloved. What is it about dancing that inspires you to share it with others? What would you say to someone who says that they’re a terrible dancer (is there such a thing)?
Nobody doesn’t have rhythm. It’s the first and most basic form of human expression. It’s just that in our culture, a lot of folks grow up alienated from their bodies, pleasure, instincts, and inborn groove. Anyone who thinks they’re a bad dancer is just stuck in their head. Which means, there’s an entire universe of magic below their neck waiting to be explored.
I’d tell you to jump on my ride (even though it probably feels crazy and scary) … because there’s nothing to lose but your limits and a whole new you waiting for you on the other side.

Dance what you feel — what may be strange dancing to others, may feel natural to you.
We gotta know, what’s a dance-floor-worthy song that you’ll never get tired of?
I’ve been playing this one for years and am still obsessed with how it makes a crowd bounce!!
