Malóne, Cuban-born DJ/Producer from Miami is coming off his biggest year yet in 2022. Releasing music on labels such as Saved, Insomniac, Abracadabra, and Hurry Up Slowly. The artist also had two #1 AfroHouse tracks on Beatport last year, as well as a couple of collaborations with BLOND:ISH and many other artists. His own label, Hurry Up Slowly, has rapidly grown since its conception in 2020. HUS was the #2 AfroHouse Label in the world in 2022. The event series has also presented massive activations during Art Basel and F1 with Malóne supporting Martinez Brothers, Diplo, Marco Carola, Camelphat and many more.
Recently named by 1001 tracklists as one of the “The Future Of Dance Artists”, and a featured artist for DJ Mag Spain, Malóne will be showcasing a new and much bigger sound — collaborations with artists like BLOND:ISH, Carlita and many more. The artist has already confirmed multiple festivals, a spring tour, and numerous dates in Ibiza, Mykonos, Barcelona, and other European cities for this upcoming summer. Being ranked the #4 AfroHouse Artist in the world by Beatport in 2022, along with reaching over 3 million listeners, Malóne is poised to have a massive 2023.
Now sharing with 6AM, Malóne gets into his Miami experiences such as Art Basel week — a four-day event where Hurry Up Slowly featured headliners BLOND:ISH, Camelphat, Gordo, the Martinez Brothers, and Malóne himself, beginning the imprint Hurry Up Slowly with brother-duo Calussa in 2021, how reaching out to UK singer-songwriter Hannah Boleyn via Instagram after a follower recommended the two work together became a great choice for the Late at Night single, wrapping up the 2022 year with a project that makes a statement, upcoming 2023 project collaborations with BLOND:ISH, Carlita, and Calussa, and being grateful for having an amazing team that has pushed for his success. The single Late at Night is now available for full purchase on Beatport.
Welcome to 6AM Malóne, we’re glad that you could join us and tell us more about your recent release Late at Night. Tell us what’s been keeping you busy and inspired in Miami.
What’s up guys, it’s a pleasure to join you. Just finished wrapping up a pretty amazing year. 2022 was an incredible year for me with so much growth and amazing memories. Finishing strong in Miami with a massive Art Basel week and a couple of shows on NYE.
Speaking of Miami, you run your own imprint Hurry Up Slowly, which you also released Late at Night on as well. Walk us through how you co-founded the label with brother duo Calussa in 2021. What’s been the most memorable accomplishment(s) that you’ve seen come from the label’s releases?
We got together sometime after the pandemic and really shared the same interests in wanting to start a label and really give up-and-coming artists like ourselves and all over the world a platform to put out and share their music. We take a lot of pride in everything we do — every detail from artwork to distro to pushing the records as hard and best we can. Our biggest accomplishment this year was seeing 7 of our tracks finish in the Top 100 of Beatport’s best tracks of 2022. It really has been amazing to see how quickly the label has grown.
On the topic of releases, let’s dive more into Late at Night. The single also features energetic vocals from UK singer-songwriter Hannah Boleyn. The story goes that you reached out to the artist on Instagram after a follower recommended that you two should collaborate. What made you follow your gut and go “Hmm…why, not?”. Did you envision the track having vocals prior to or after speaking with Hannah?
I’ve always had this idea of finishing the year with a more emotional and vocal/melodic type of track. It’s just the vibe I feel in the fall. I always love writing music with original vocals. It just feels better to create something original and unique, and Hannah is just so talented, it was really easy to work with her. She understood the direction of my foundation of the track and delivered a really amazing vocal.

Taking a chance with working with a stranger can be a postive and rewarding experience.
Regarding the project, you’ve mentioned: “For my last release of 2022, I wanted to finish the year with a more melodic and emotional style of track. Fitting for the fall and this time of year around Art Basel. Late At Night is like the final chapter of the story which was 2022, and I feel like I am ending it properly with this record.” What made you feel inspired to create a track that gave the feeling of “ending the chapter with a bang”?
2022 was just such a big year for me. I had two #1 Afro House tracks in Muy Bien and Besame which was absolutely insane to me. I wanted to finish the year with an uplifting, more traditional, melodic type of Afro track. In 2023, my sound is going to be bigger and groovier, so it just felt right to finish 2022 in that way.

Going out with a memorable bang was Malóne’s goal for ending 2022.
Speaking of ending 2022 with a bang, we couldn’t help but notice that Hurry Up Slowly recently joined forces with Boneca for Miami Art Week and had headliners such as BLOND:ISH, Camelphat, Gordo, the Martinez Brothers, and even yourself. You also finished the spring of 2022 with shows in Montreal, Boston, Washington DC, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Fort Lauderdale, before finishing your North American tour in Miami. You’ve accomplished a lot, and we know that there’s more to come soon. What does 2023 look like for you?
I’ve never been more excited and nervous about a new year in my life! There are so many things going on — I have so much more new music to put out including some massive new collaborations with BLOND:ISH, Carlita, and Calussa that I’m extremely excited about. I’m just feeling very blessed to be able to continue to share my music with the world and play all these amazing shows with such incredible crowds all over the world. I’m looking forward to a big European tour this summer — with some massive shows I can’t announce yet — but I can’t wait to see what 2023 brings!

Malóne is setting the stage for another prosperous year.
We appreciate you taking the time to join us, Malóne. You’re going to be an unstoppable force in the coming year. Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Really appreciate you guys having me on and letting me share a little of my story. This game is not easy, but if you stay humble and keep working hard, amazing things can happen — especially, when you surround yourself with a great team, I’m truly blessed to be surrounded by some of the best people, management, and agency any artist could ask for.
