Mason Collective: 5 Favorite Manchester House Records

New school house tastemakers Mason Collective make a big bang with their explosive Play It Say It label debut.

Mason Collective are a red hot outfit blowing up the house scene right now. The trio of DJs and producers hail from Manchester and next to their robust club tracks on labels like Whippin Records, Loco Dice’s Desolat and HotTrax, they also promote their own hugely popular – and always sold out – MVSON events.

Their no-nonsense style is here for all to see on their lates EP titled Art Is Long and scheduled for January 24th 2020 release; ‘That’s Gas’ has a superbly programmed and tightly woven groove that is infectious and propulsive. Sci-fi sounds, filtered vocals and skewed synths peel off the urgent groove and demand you dance. The warm and rubbery ‘Ready to Work’ echoes Chicago great Gemini with its paranoid bass and vocals as well as high-speed sense of house funk.

The wonky titular track shows another side to the collective: it’s a freaky late-night jam with daubs of melody, unhinged and wispy synths and a kinetic minimal house groove. This most expressive EP finishes with the slick tech and driving drums of ‘Steezin’, which has a flurry of 909s, taught bass and chopped up vocal sounds that will set any dance floor alight. This is a fresh, high-class take on house music from these contemporary stars.

Manchester-born and Manchester proud, Mason Collective shared 5 of their favorite House records produced from artists hailing from their home city!

Claro Intelecto – Peace Of Mind

Such a well made track from a dope artist.

52nd Street – Tell Me

Classic 808 funk with the smoothest vocals from the late Diane Charlemagne. One that our parents put us on to.

A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray

Goes without saying that this deserves a top 5 spot. Iconic track.

DJ Sappo – Tick-A-Tock Bass

We grew South Manchester in the 90s, a time when the jungle scene here was banging, and we had guys like Trigga and Sappo doing a lot for the city.

Future Sound of London – Papa New Guinea

Classic from the early 90s from Manchester-formed band Future Sound of London. Proper high quality electronic music.
