Every now and then a young up-and-comer comes on to the scene with a fresh and exciting sound, and Luuk van Dijk is certainly one such individual.
Still in his early twenties, the Dutch native is a man on a roll recently – just as anyone who’s checked out his releases for the likes of Roush or VIVa will tell you. With his latest arrive via Jamie Jones’ legendary Hot Creations label, we decided to check in with Luuk, as he gave us a quick insight into his home of Amsterdam, picking his top 5 spots as he goes.
Consider this one an interesting insight not only into one of Europe’s best cities for electronic music (and lets be honest, best cities in general!) but also into the mind of a producer clearly destined for great things!
For this one, we will work backwards, starting with number 5!
If you like chicken, this is the place to be, I come here at least once a month. The menu is quite simple; you can go for a whole chicken or a half one with some sides to accentuate the meal, think of (the most epic) chips, corn, coleslaw, piri piri etc. I gotta admit I’m more excited about this restaurant than my friends but trust me, this place is everything. (If you’re into chicken!)

Disco Dolly, the definition of an intimate club. With only 80 people inside you can have the most epic nights. Disco & House is the sound this club stands for. Even though the club is small they’ve had quite some big names over in their DJ booth like Gerd Janson, Floating Points, Mall Grab, Tom Trago, just to name a few. Open 7 days a week, this is the place if you can’t wait to party but it isn’t weekend yet.
Handboogstraat 11
Mary Go Wild is my No.1 recordstore in Amsterdam. I bought my first record here a couple of years ago and I still go crate digging once a week at this place. Checking out new and 2nd hand records all day long with a coffee/beer or to have a laugh with the amazing team, I just love the hospitality here! Zeedijk 44
This is really something else. Almost every Sunday they open their gates for 2-3,000 enthusiastic party peeps from everywhere in Holland. It’s a daytime party so no stress for work on Monday. When they opened 5 years ago everyone thought they were crazy because they had the balls to throw parties on a Sunday. But what started as a small place to go to if you’re still not done with dancing from Saturday night, turned out to be one of the most successful concepts in Amsterdam. Every weekend the program is different; Joris Voorn, Sven Vath, Speedy J, Jackmaster or Benny Rodrigues with friends and 10hr sets. I’m super glad I got to play at Thuishaven 5 times now already. They sell out almost every time so be quick if you want to go.

And of course my favorite room in Amsterdam… my studio! This is where I am 3/4 days a week, making beats. I got this place 2 years ago, best investment I’ve ever made. Stay tuned on my releases because a lot of new stuff I’ve made in my second home is made here!
