Global Vibe Radio 211 Feat. JoeFarr

User Experience label boss JoeFarr steps up for this week’s Global Vibe Radio mix and this one is special as it’s comprised only of his own originals and remixes.

Enjoy the mix below and read on for our exclusive interview with the British artist.

Hi Joe, thank you so much for the mix. Can you tell us a little bit about it, what you used to put it together, your mood when doing so and what you hope it conveys to listeners?

Thanks for asking me. I tried to recreate what I do at my gigs but to be honest it just ain’t the same. I’m not a big fan of doing studio mix’s as the crowd is missing. My sets are a hybrid performance and I play all my own tracks along with jams on the RYTM drum machine. So it’s kind of like a 3 deck work out… But this time, no drum machine. Sorry.

In terms of what I want it to convey, nothing too deep really, just hope it gets some feet tapping and heads nodding, oh and I want people to cry or sob a little to track 15.

Any standout tracks we should be on the lookout for?
My favourite track in the mix is the one called ‘Tape Me Up’. Also Track 4 – ‘ Infliction‘ is doing it for me right now, out on Mindcut soon.

How about any of your originals or remixes? How many can we find in here?

These are all my tracks or remix’s I have done.

Wow! Love it. How has the lockdown been for you?

A strange and scary time, but also time to reflect and take my foot of the gas with gigs. I have 2 kids so home schooling and no break from them has made things pretty intense, but as intense as they are I am also in awe of them both. Also building my mastering business constantly and getting new clients so I am busy.

What is your typical day like now?

Very busy. It’s changing again because my partner is now on furlough (off work) so I will be working on the studio 7-2 everyday then coming home to give her a break. Fridays I will do the home-schooling. Then the weekends is no work if possible. We all try and go for a walk and get some exercise each day.

Do you find yourself more or less productive in the studio? Why do you think that is?

I am only productive. Since having children everything is focussed so no change there. To expand on that I would say; I have so many things to do that if I find myself bored or stuck with something I can just move onto another task. Listening to demos, running the two labels, mastering, making tracks, remix’s, acoustic
research, ear training etc etc etc.

A lot of people are focusing on the negatives of the current situation. What do you feel some of the positives are for you generally, as well as for you personally?

The planet is breathing again, that’s a big one for me. I have time to reflect on what’s really important and what I want to focus on, especially thinking about when things get back to ’normal’ – it’s got me thinking about priorities.

Can you tell us a bit about the release projects you’re working on for the rest of 2020?

You know about the Elements one of course. These tracks have been in my sets for over 2 years now so it’s great to see them coming out. Nothing else concrete yet but should have a new EP out on UX after the summer.

Are you working on any collaborations with anyone?

I have one with KTRM which we need to get back on

I saw that your FB page was hacked. How did that happen?

I had 2 accounts with access to the page, I lost the login for the other account and forgot about it for a few years, then one day that account kicked me out of my page.. then it was gone.

Damn, that sucks. What’s your take on the role of social media in today’s techno scene and especially now that everyone is on the same level playing field (sorta) when it comes to no gigs?

It’s a disease. Honestly, I think it’s so bad how some people use social media. So many sellouts milking the system whilst playing shit music, waving their hands around.

Are you doing any live streams?

I did one production one and I am going to do a ‘live remix’ soon. I am going to be giving live feedback from a mastering perspective, so people can send their tracks for assessment. I am going to do this once a week for an hour, should be able to fit around 10 tracks in per session.

What has been the best meal you’ve cooked since quarantine/lockdown?

I can cook, but my partner loves cooking a lot so I clean instead.

Are you taking up or continuing any non-musical hobbies now that you’re at home most of the time?

Getting out on my bike is keeping me sane. Luckily for me my studio is away from my home, a 5 minute drive, so I do get a change of scene when I go to work.

What’s the first thing you will want to do once quarantine is over?

Go meet my mum and dad in a pub.
