Global Vibe Radio 052 feat. Astin (This And That Lab., Snatch! Records)

The 53rd episode of Global Vibe Radio is a one-hour studio mix from Italian producer and DJ Astin.

Real name Giulio Ciardiello, Astin began his career playing at his local club in Campania, in the south of Italy, where he also frequented the dance floor as a clubber. He then moved to the larger city of Bologna up north, soon becoming a regular feature at the main club in the city where he honed his skills as a track selector and began producing music. With an impressive catalogue of releases on his resume, Astin has founded his own Hustler Muzik label, which he operated with his friend and business partner Davide Napolitano.

Astin recently released his Hold Yo Hands EP on Davide Squillace’s This And That Lab. imprint, and has in the past catalogued music on labels such as Snatch! Records, Inmotion Music and Moan Recordings. The title track, “Hold Yo Hands,” is a creative track with forward thinking ideas that fuse a medley of sounds to create something distinct and unique. Tribal drums fill the track with primal rhythms destined to set the dance floor alight, and rising synths blend with pitched vocals to form an unusual mix of textures, but the piece de resistance is perhaps the stunning soulful vocal murmurs.

Track two “Caress To The Heart” is another quirky cut with free flowing percussion fueled by rolling tom drums and crashing snare hits. Murky vocals are used to create a dark atmosphere and unnerving sense of excitement. The tracks main feature is an eerie flute sample which in contrast to its thrilling enigmatic background sounds mystical and otherworldly.
