DGTL Festival is a music festival that caters to fans of techno and house, known for its focus on the best the international and local scenes have to offer in Amsterdam, Barcelona and São Paolo, where the brand holds separate festivals. This April 15-16, 2017 the festival will return to NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam, an indoor and outdoor festivity considered by many in the city and Europe as the first major spring festival gala.
On top of an impressive lineup, there will also be a brand new sustainability effort called the Eco Coin.
DGTL has been recognized for “going veggie” to reduce its carbon footprint. They also have launched quite a few other sustainability projects and are sending a call out to people to change their lifestyles in order to improve the condition of the planet we live on. The Eco Coin is their latest way of doing so: in partnership with Next Nature Network, they will launch the world’s first ecological currency. Eco Coins will be awarded to festival goers who participate in the Revolution projects or workshops. These Eco Coins or ECOS will then unlock rewards for attendees in the way of free food, music downloads, freebies, discounts, and access to secret areas.
ECOS can be earned in different areas of the festival. For example, they can go to DGTL DOWNTOWN where art and sustainability projects merge. DGTL DOWNTOWN is their image of the future: no waste, a circular economy, the use of clean energy and an upgraded food system making up this future. Another area where they can get ECOS is at THE FUTURE OF FOOD. Here, some ingredients that could soon become food staples will be served by Dutch food pioneers. Their sights are set on giving alternative food in case we have insufficient resources by 2050.
DGTL will also be introducing indexation of all their resources alongside the Eco Coin launch. This means they will keep track of all the materials used at the festival. Instead of trash cans, there will be “Resource Collection Points” to use in lieu. DGTL wants to set the standard for the fast-growing international festival industry with this Eco Coin launch. They will also be in Barcelona and Sao Paulo this year with more sustainable events, targeting the youth of today who will be the savior of tomorrow.
