Adapter (aka Antonio Russo) always leaves you with the feeling of “what’s next?” From an early age, he has always had an uncontrollable passion for music, especially for percussion and the piano. He is no stranger to the styles of 80s and 90s music, as he has always appreciated music from those years. Even now, his style is influenced by the 80s and 90s, and it is also a combination of the past and the present since he has a knack for experimenting with both time-loops.
His style of old-school disco combined with modern influences have led him to be known as one of the most talented producers within the underground scene, as well as earning him releases on Hot Creations, Black Book, and Catch & Release.
Nice to meet you friend, how are you?
All good mate! And you?
What part of the world are you in right now?
I just got back from a festival in Palma de Mallorca and now I’m at my home in Naples.
We are both Italians and I see you started your career in the local Napoli scene. Can you tell us about your first years of life, what it was like growing up in the beautiful city that is Naples and how did it lead to the discovery of electronic music?
I’m glad we’re both Italians. Yes, Naples is a great musical reality. From an early age, I loved music and started to play piano and guitar. At 15 I started playing at the parties in this city. I have always observed all the greatest artists and guests who played in Naples and beyond. I’m so passionate about the art of DJing.

Creating great music comes from learning and watching others.
How did your passion for electronic music turn into a career for you? I see you started and curated your night in Naples called “Dirtyclub” — how did it happen and how did it intersect with your career as an artist?
Around 23 years old I closed the first gigs thanks to the releases on Get physical, Viva Music, and Desolat. After this experience around the clubs, I decided to create a party in Naples and it was very informative and fun. It formed and raised me a lot.

Who were your first musical influences and who influences you today? How have these changes changed over the years and why?
My musical influences haven’t changed much. I love all kinds of music. I always follow the 80s / 90s. I like Funky, Pop, Rock, and also the ambient and the chillout. I love to experiment and research a lot of music when I have to create a record.

What would you say was the pivotal moment in your career (a gig, a release, or a connection) that saw you take the big leap into the big leagues you’re in today?
Surely when I released on Hot creations it gave me the right push to get in with a straight leg. Then releases on other big labels such as Trick, Black Book, Catch & Release. They are now on excellent terms with Jamie, Patrick, and also Chris Lake and Fisher :).

I am really excited about the upcoming dates in Ibiza — at Eden with Lee Foss and at Hi Ibiza with Fisher. But there are also many great festivals that I look forward to.
Are you planning to come to the United States with us soon?
Yes, of course with the agency we are planning the tour in America and I hope to announce it as soon as possible.
