Berlin’s Sascha Rydell steps up for this week’s Guest Mix.
Long-time Fachwerk member and well known for his stripped, funky but always dancefloor-focused techno, Rydell is also behind ColorCode Records.
Sascha Rydell was one-third and a key member of the Fachwerk triumvirate that is leading the way in stripped, funky, dancefloor focussed techno. 1996 was when he began DJing, and since then years of experience have only fomented his ability to thread a compelling electronic soundtrack to anyone who will listen. Born and raised in Berlin, growing up alongside clubs like WMF, Tresor and E-Werk and people like Mike Dehnert and Roman Lindau, Rydell has techno in his bones.
But so too hip-hop, soul, funk, house and jazz in all of which are things that inform his sketchy, loopy, heavy techno sounds and this is too reflected in his DJ Sets. It’s fantastic to see how music can make people happy in a global way, it’s like a universal language and it works over all the world” says self-confessed vinyl junkie Sascha of his trade; a trade he has been perfecting for two decades and since long before Berlin came the fashionable hotspot it is now.
Over the course of 30+ releases, the music has never strayed from its addictive and highly effective sound philosophy: Groove is Central, Bass is Life, Texture and Detail are essential. The result is a stunning catalogue of truly underground club and experiment music, that has seen Sascha Rydell also become world-renowned producers and DJs.
