Based in the Greater Los Angeles area, Josh Sturges is the Co-Founder/Manager of Tympanum Records, a label that specializes in a unique blend of heavy, hypnotic sounds full of syncopated drums, evolving textures, and deep chord progressions.
His Guest Mix here was recorded with his forever-evolving hybrid/Live set-up, all bumps and bruises included.
Catch him performing in Los Angeles on Feb 8th at WORK presents 999999999 [5 Hour Set] and Josh Sturges. Info and tickets can be found HERE.
Tympanum Records’ latest compilation release featured two pieces of Sturges’ work.
The sophomore edition of TYMPANUM VA 002 featured four tracks thematically entwined in the atmospheric, droning Techno style.
“Paese” by Sturges was a driving, but reserved track with buzzes, white noises, and mechanized, deliberate, but estranged energy. A track that is a hybrid of stern focus, and leftfield liquidated flow.
The compilation concluded with a joint effort by Secus and Sturges, the oceanic, blackened groove “Pluviam” riddled with rainy noise, and an echoing, earth-shaking modular brass.
TYMPANUM VA 002 is a compilation that did not disappoint, just as Sturges’ Guest Mix today didn’t: a journey into hypnotic and atmospheric Techno sounds that is sure to destroy warehouse dancefloors.
